A Perfect Ride on a Perfect Day

Saturday, May 14, 2011 two friends and I enjoyed a ceremonial bicycle ride to begin the Honor America’s Heroes—Bicycle across America—One Fire Station at a Time Tour.

The Honor America’s Heroes Bicycle Ceremonial Ride distance was 3.43 miles. The number 343 honors the 343 fire fighters killed at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Our ride started and finished at San Bernardino County Fire Station # 41. We visited the California Division of Forestry Fire Station on Airway Avenue in Yucca Valley, California.

This retired Fire Chief liked seeing the Explorer Scouts working and training with the fire fighters at Station 41.

Our route included the Gypsy Cycles facility in Yucca Valley, California. Gypsy Cycles builds custom bicycles.

Please visit the Gypsy Cycles web site:  http://www.gypsycycles.com

My co-riders were Trevor and Don.

Trevor is the owner of Gypsy Cycles. He is a classic bicyclist with outstanding credentials including bicycle racing trophies and a role with Race Across America (RAAM).

Trevor’s advice and support are invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Don is the Captain of the USMC triathlon team (29T2) at 29 Palms Marine base. Team members participate in multi-sport events around the world.

The 29T2 team also participates in charity events. We recently completed the 24-hour Relay for life.

I am proud to be part of the 29T2 team.

Thank you Don for the, generous, $50.00 donation to the Lung Cancer Alliance.

In conclusion, it was a beautiful day complete with blue skies, snow on the mountaintops and good friends. We saw a big and beautiful hawk. Trevor tells me that is a good omen.

Indeed, a perfect ride on a perfect day.
